About Battenberg...
With links to Lord Louis Mountbatten and his family, Battenberg is a small country town overlooking the River Eder in a beautiful region of hills and forests.

Battenberg is not far from the ancient university city of Marburg and about 90 minutes drive north of Frankfurt.

First mentioned as a city in 1234, the town centre market place is still overlooked by the old slated timber-framed town hall built in the 17th century. This is the area made famous by the Brothers Grimm, and Battenberg has its own Hansel and Gretel fountain in the centre.

The meadows alongside the Eder, parts of which are a nature reserve, are rich in animal and plant life throughout the year.
